Commemorations in the Church

Commemorative plaque to Captain (RN) Frank BRANDT, HMS Monmouth, who was killed in action at sea on 1st November 1914 at the Battle of Coronel off the coast of Chile.   The plaque states:

In Memory of Frank Brandt Capt RN
Who on 1st November 1914
off Coronel Chili died at
his post in Command of HMS
Monmouth a unit of the Squadron
led by Admiral Craddock HMS
Good Hope against an overpowering
German Squadron.  Both vessels
sank in flame, with them perishing
Admiral, officers and men all
willing to die rather than surrender.
 
Born in 1871, elder son of Francis Brandt
ICS and of Lucy Sophia his wife.

He is commemorated on the Cheltenham War Memorial, the All Saint's Church War Memorial.   His parents Francis and Lucy Brandt resided at "Kirkella", Pitville Circus Road, Cheltenham.

Notes:

1.   A Roll of Honour was published on 24th June 1917 for a Service of Commemoration for those who had fallen in the war.  This can be viewed here.
