"Cheltonians" buried in this Cemetery

Pte George Frederick LARGE, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, is buried in Plot X, Row D, Grave 2.

He was killed in action on 30th October 1917 during the Battle of Passchendaele, on his 26th birthday.

He is commemorated on the Bishops Cleeve War Memorial, the Southam War Memorial and the Cleeve Hill (St Peter's Church) Roll of Honour.   He is also commemorated on his father's grave in Bishops Cleeve (St Michael's) Churchyard.

His parents resided at Bushcombe Lane, Woodmancote, near Cheltenham.

His brother, William, also served with the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry during the war and died of illness in Saskatewan on 23rd October 1921.

Pte Large's headstone bears the inscription:

"He wears a truer crown than any wreath that man can weave him"
