    Surnames - D

Some apparent  inaccuracies and anomalies have been discovered in respect of the spelling of surnames, service/regimental records, details of birth and death events and other matters in The Book, the Debt of Honour Register at the CWGC, on local war memorials and in the publication "Officers and Soldiers Who Died In The Great War".

DOUGHERTY John Joseph The Book, page 162 Born at Whitehaven in 1882.   Enlisted into Royal Irish Rifles as Pte, 40257.   Landed at Gallipoli on 16th September 1915 (only unit of Royal Irish Rifle served there is 6th Battalion).   Later transferred to The King's Own (Royal Lancaster Regiment) as a Pte, number 13661.   Discharged on 16th February 1917 under KRs para 392 (xvi) "No longer physically fit for war service"
